Our Vision

Our vision at Salem Montessori School is to foster children's development and love for learning through intentional practice and an environment that allows space for individual growth opportunity. Our hope is that students will have a preschool experience where they can embrace their curiosity, develop relationships and explore the limitless possibilities they have within themselves and the world around them.

Montessori Method

The Montessori Method was created by Maria Montessori in 1907. It is designed to allow children to learn at their own pace through a multitude of experiences. This hands-on, play-based approach is beneficial for children to develop balance in their social, intellectual, emotional, physical and mental capabilities.

History of SMS

Salem Montessori School was established in 1974 in Salem, OR. Since then, the school has provided a Montessori inspired, rich learning environment for many families and generations. SMS has had the privilege to partake in the education of students in pre-k through kindergarten age for over 40 years!
